One of my fondest memories of Outdoor Leadership began on day three of our six day backpacking trip. I wrote in my journal that day, "Today I went through a million emotions, joy, frustration. We traveled for 15km in incredibly deep snow (approx. 1 metre). I have really enjoyed myself on this trip. I have faced many challenges and feel very accomplished when I complete those challenges. I have come to realize how blessed I am to have been given this opportunity. Currently I am sitting around the fire with everyone. We have become almost family-like. We are half way done our trip, unfortunately. It is so beautiful in the tombstone valley". This was a crucial day in building my character because I experienced my first true adversity and overcame it with the help of an amazing community.
The first day on trail with ODL 2014-2015 was excruciatingly hot and a difficult day for hiking but it turned out to be my favourite day of the whole trip. After finishing the steep climb to the top of Manzanita Bluff I was rewarded with the most amazing view. I found that sitting with my ODL family watching the ocean after a hard days work was the most rewarding feeling in the world and I couldn't get it anywhere else.
